Tranmere story

Tony Rowley was a Welsh centre-forward, born in Porthcawl, who joined Tranmere Rovers from Liverpool in 1958.

Rowley had previously represented Wellington Town and Stourbridge after a spell on Birmingham City's books. He signed for Liverpool in 1953 and scored 38 goals in 63 first-team appearances, including a hat-trick on the opening day of the 1954/55 season.

At Tranmere, Rowley made 100 Football League appearances and maintained his reputation as a prolific scorer. His form earned him a senior Wales cap against Northern Ireland in April 1959. After leaving Prenton Park in 1961, he played for Bangor City, Northwich Victoria and Mossley. Rowley died in 2006, aged 76.
